Zikoko Interview on N4m Oil & Gas Job : Can UK Masters Help Him Achieve that?
Dear Jarus,
The thing is that since I graduated from school, I have not been able to get a job like that like that. Though I usually get to final stage or semi final stage of the the job interview (example NNPC, PWC, Globacom and co). However, as it stands now, I’m not even interested in getting any job again so the plan is to go for another masters at the University of Portsmouth next year September (God sparing my life o). I intend doing for engineering management until I saw that Zikoko article on that guy that works with an oil company and earns $$$ per annum. The main question is, would getting a masters degree in petroleum engineering make it easier for someone to get that kind of job? Omo I have been thinking since I read that article.

Dear Lucky,
The problem doesn’t appear to be your not having masters, it may be your interview taking skills. You got to the interview stage of three top companies – one of them I can vouch for, recruits on merit – and did not pass. I’m not sure masters is the problem. Oil and gas jobs, especially IOCs like the subject of that interview, are way more competitive than those ones you flunked. A job that pays N4m per month is an extremely rare job, hotly competitive. Go get your masters in Portsmouth, it may be helpful, but that’s not what will get you a N4m per month job.
All the best

This is an hard matter. The oil market is complicated and being controlled by several countries while it’s a very necessary input for the work of this world.
