QUESTIONS:
1. Tell us what you know about investment banking?
Tip: The interviewers are interested in your knowledge of investment banking. Here, you summarise what it (IB) is all: From the history to branches to global firms and coming down to players in the Nigerian market. Additionally, you should express your passion for investment banking and why you desire to work with CardinalStone. Be calm, ditto succinct when explaining.
2. Differentiate between capital market and money market?
Tip: As an aspiring investment banker, you will work in both markets, and it is expected you know what they mean and their differences. You are expected to narrate with examples the differences between both them and how they operate. Expect follow up questions afterwards.
3. Debt and Equity Markets are ways to raise money for companies. Which one do you suggest for a fledgling agricultural firm in the cassava value chain?
Tip: Although, not specified, but the interviewers are asking two questions. One is to differentiate between debt and equity markets. The other is to proffer investment advice to an agricultural firm. Here, they want to understand your investment banking and business acumen. You are expected to be logical and sequential.
4. Tell me about a time you worked with an uncooperative team member?
Tip: The interviewer(s) are not just desirous of seeing your leadership qualities, but also how you handled working relationship with colleagues who might be uncooperative in a team. If you a have an event to narrate, this is an opportunity to display such key team ability. You are going to be in the workplace, and working with individuals you have not met before. Managing disaccord which will rise is an important trait for any employee.
5. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Tip: A typical question. Here, you are expected to play out your strengths and how it has improved you greatly. On the other hand, you are to say your weaknesses, but explain how you have been working on it to be a better individual.
