QUESTIONS:
1. Describe a time you had to motivate others to accomplish a goal?
Tip: Here, the recruiters are desirous of knowing how you have exhibited the trait – motivation & teamwork – in your life. They want to know when, how and where you have motivated a group (preferably as opposed to an individual). Using the STAR approach, logically describe the scenario and what you learnt from it. Make it real, as follow-up questions will be asked.
2. Tell me about a time you set a goal for yourself. How did you go about ensuring that you would meet your objective?
Tip: Your determination and perseverance skills are tested here. When did you set a goal for yourself? How did you meet your objective? What goal was that? What did you learn? Discuss the challenges involved and how you overcame them. As expected, it should be real; but also concise and interesting.
3. Tell me about a time you worked in a team that had an uncooperative colleague?
Tip: Your team work ability is tested here. You should not criticise your colleague while narrating the event. Explain to them how you were able to encourage the colleague to understand why the work being done is important. Additionally, display your leadership skill by explaining how despite the individual being uncooperative, you and the team were able to achieve desired goals.
4. Why should we hire you?
Tip: Another way of asking: What do you bring to the table? Why GSK? Your role here is to develop an answer that covers essentially three things: that you can not only do the work, you can deliver great results; that you’ll really fit in with the team and culture; and that you’d be a better hire than any of the other candidates. This is the time to demonstrate the reason you chose GSK. You are one of the hundreds if not thousands applying for the same role, so be innovative in answering this question. Display problem solving skills by talking about their problems and how your being hired can aid to solving them. Firms employ people to solve their pressing needs. Show them that you are the right candidate for the job.
5. Describe your sales experience?
Tip: How many sales have you made? The impact? Goals set? Goals achieved? How can you bring such experience to GSK? And how will GSK benefit from it? These and many more are what the recruiters are seeking to extract by asking this question. Be analytical here, use figures where necessary. If you have a wealth of experience, choose about the most important 3 experiences and reel out the experiences – logically. Entry level? If no experience, not too worry. Display your passion for sales and marketing by bringing previous experience(s) from your tertiary education days, volunteering etc.
