QUESTIONS:
1. Can we meet you?
Tip: Another way of asking: Tell me about yourself? Who is Mr/Ms ABC? A concise summary of your professional history. Depending on the situation, you could commence from your secondary school and post-secondary school. Additionally, talk about relevant certifications and advanced degrees. This question is to tell the interviewer(s) who you are in a succinct manner.
2. Why Ecobank?
Tip: There are other banks, question is: why Ecobank? You have to narrate reasons why you prefer Ecobank. Conduct research on the firm and what makes them special and different? Could it be their pan-African reach? Training? Brand? Vision? Career progression for staff? This is the time to express your passion for the bank. Expect follow-up questions. An example is: Why should we hire you?
3. Describe a time when you had to interact with a difficult client. What was the situation, and how did you handle it?
Tip: The recruiters are desirous of knowing when you had to deal with difficult, unwavering and aggressive clients/customers. The banking industry like most industries deals with different people daily, and treating them not just equally, but most importantly properly to their satisfaction. The recruiters want to know through this question how you have done them previously.
4. Why banking (especially if your course is not banking/business related)?
Tip: You probably studied an engineering discipline or even History. Like most bankers today and other professionals, your first degree does not matter in recruitment. However, the recruiters want to hear and possibly see your passion for the industry. Have you worked in a financial position/industry until now? Mention it. What if you have no prior experience in financial matters? Express your passion. Talk about how you have always desired to work in a banking corporation and align it to how Ecobank is the most preferred bank for you. Provide logical reasons.
5. Tell me about a time where you have worked with an uncooperative colleague?
Tip: Just like you will meet uncooperative clients, you will meet uncooperative colleagues. This question wants an answer on how you have worked with an uncooperative colleague. How did it go? What made the colleague “uncooperative”? How did you solve it? What lessons were learnt? What changed afterwards? Remember, on no account should you berate your colleague. Yes, talk about what made him/her “uncooperative”, but do not berate the individual.
