FEATURED COMPANY
DELOITTE NIGERIA
QUESTIONS:
1. What do you know about Deloitte ?
Tip: The recruiters are desirous of a concise and well-thought out process of what you know about the firm. This is the time to express your knowledge of the company; her key timelines; achievements; reports; and basically what the firm does. Additionally, talk about the history of the firm in Nigeria and how they evolved to be who they are today. They are desirous of assessing your knowledge about the firm in a succinct manner.
2. Tell me about a time when you led a team?
Tip: Your leadership qualities are tested with this question. Think about a time when you led a team and how was the experience? What did you learn from it? The duties performed and challenges encountered? What about if you have never led a team but have been in one? Assume you are the leader and narrate your experiences. However you go about it, expect follow-up questions based on your responses.
3. Why finance (especially if you have a non-finance/accounting/business related background)?
Tip: This is when you have to provide coherent and logical reasons why you are interested in finance even though you have a non-finance background. It is the time when you have to exude the qualities of an individual who has the capacity to work in finance and cope with the pressures. Your passion and enthusiasm will be tested, as the interviewers know that many just use it to pass time. Express these qualities. Also, expect follow-up questions. An example: Are you prepared to write finance certification examinations (ACCA, ICAN etc)?
4. Tell me about a time when you had to handle a negative feedback?
Tip: As humans, we make mistakes, but what is important is how we rise above them and our learning experience(s). You will make mistakes during your time at Deloitte, but before then, the recruiters want to know how you have fared in a previous exercise and how it was handled. Using the STAR technique, you narrate about a negative feedback and how you managed it from the situation, task, action and eventual results. This gives a logical approach to relaying your experience(s).
5. Technical Questions: What do you know about personal income tax? How much does tax contribute to the nation’s GDP? What do you think about the recent federal government economic policy (agriculture? housing? infrastructure?)?
Tip: Especially for a specialised unit as Tax, expect questions that relate to the division. Your knowledge about the laws, policies, and insights that concern the economy will be tested. They want to gauge your up-to-date knowledge about these aspects. Additionally, you will be asked about the relevant economic policies by the government and discuss on them. Before the interview, prepare well by keeping up with economic events and how they unfold. Follow business related media channels for in-depth analysis. Another way of asking this is: How do you keep up-to-date with economic news in the country?
