QUESTIONS:
1. Why banking? (Especially if your course is not banking/business related)
Tip: Here, you have to demonstrate passion and desire for the banking profession. The interviewers want to see your desire for the industry and not just something to pass time with. Think about a time/project/person that made you decided that it is the banking industry you desire to have your career. Expect follow-up questions.
2. Tell me about a time when you had to explain something fairly complex to a frustrated client. How did you go about this?
Tip: Your communication, interpersonal and persuasive skills are tested with this question. The recruiters are desirous of knowing how you will pacify a client or explain complex terms to their understanding without them hyperventilating. Banking like most fields is customer facing and how you manage clients no matter their financial profile is vital to the firm’s image and corporate value. This question is asked to know how you have done it previously.
3. Tell us about yourself?
Tip: Here, you just need to summarise your CV succinctly. From your tertiary education to work experience(s) (if any) to other sections within your CV. Don’t be too brief neither should you be long-winded. Just narrate your educational and professional history.
4. What do you know about UBA?
Tip: Here, you are to demonstrate your knowledge about the bank. To further boost your session, pick up a relevant but recent policy or news about the bank and talk about it like you were involved in the project. This is after you must have summarised about the important timelines in the bank’s history.
5. Tell us about the Nigerian economy and your future projections?
Tip: Another way of asking: Discuss any economic policy of the government? Or any recent and relevant banking policy initiated by regulators? Here, you need to be informed about relevant economic trends in the country and policies in the industry. The latter can be researched about, while the former is based on residual knowledge. On the latter, just mention the relevant policies in the industry. While on the former, bring up any recent but relevant economic data/trend/news in the country. Think about the oil price and its effect on the country’s economy.
