Yes please. Only English Language and English Literature, and in some schools, Math, are compulsory. You have credit passes in those. So you’re good to go for Law.

I just got admitted to UNILAG to study Sociology(merit). But i’m being denied registration because according to them i must have an art subject to go with my English, Maths, Econs, Govt, Commerce GCEresult. They also refused Two sittings. Although a lecturer told me it could be considerable, Govt. could substitute an Art subject but… It seems there’s no hope. I feel broken and dejected, and I marvel at how Nigeria is never willing to give someone a fair shot at anything.
My question is, how MARKETABLE is Sociology in Nigeria? I’ve asked a couple of folks and they keep feeding me the same vague line; ”If it’s what u want/love to do then.. What the hell! Go ahead! Follow ur passion. Moreover,whatever u study in Nigeria dosen’t matter or determine the job you’ll get(I wonder how true that is)”.
I need someone who would be truthful to me and tell me the FACT. I kinda like Economics but i suck at maths, and i realy wouldn’t wanna graduate with anything less than a First Class so.. I need your expert and sincere counsel sir.

First, the university reserves the right to set its admission policy. I therefore can’t help on the criteria set by the school – that you must have a credit pass in at least one Art subject in your GCE result. But that is still strange to me, because Government is also an Art subject. So I advise you pursue it further, especially with the lecturer that told you Government is sufficient as an Art subject.
The opinion that course of study doesn’t matter much is actually true to a great extent.
If you suck in Mathematics, don’t go near Economics. You can’t make a First Class in Economics if you run away from Mathematics.
My advice is accept that Sociology and work to make good grade there. Many companies don’t care about course of study. They put all of you in same bucket to slug it out for the employment space, once you make their required grade (usually 2.1 and above) and within their specified age bracket. I have a friend that studied Sociology and is doing well in one of Nigeria’s top telecommunication companies. I have another friend, also a graduate of Sociology and doing extremely well.
That is my candid advice.

I’ve tried all that i could. But there’s nothing positive. Perhaps, you could by any means know of anyone at UNILAG that you can relay my plight to, who can be of help? I always thought Government was Art too.. But the woman that should register me contended that it’s Social Science and confirmed it with the JAMB brochue.

Law is still a good course. Try Political Science or Sociology too.

Try Political Science or Sociology. Although Economics is compulsory for even these courses in many schools. Look for a school that doesn’t make economics compulsory for these courses, but more importantly, you may try re-writing SSCE and pass Economics.

Yes, you have 5 credits including English and Math. There is hope for you.
However, the fact you didn’t have credit in Economics or Government may affect your chances of getting admission to study social scinces courses (Economics, Political Science, Business Administration, Sociology etc). Although some schools may take you for Sociology. Some schools may also give you Business Administration because you passed Commerce.
I will advise you check UTME brochure to check courses you’re eligible for.

Without credit in Chemistry, you cant get admission to study any engineering or natural science courses. You may look at courses like Economics.
