PwC or Major Power Firm?

0

Dear Jarushub,

I have always wanted to work at a big 4 firm, so last year, I applied to PwC graduate trainee but got dropped at the OPQ stage, same thing again happened this year when I reapplied. However, last month I applied for their tax apprenticeship program and after passing the online test, I got the mail for the OPQ. I tried it last Thursday and this evening, I got the mail that I passed and to come for the technical test on Wednesday.

My dilemma is this:
I just got an offer from a major utility (into power) firm as a finance analyst and have commenced duties. Now with this in mind, I don’t know if I should still go for that PwC test on Wednesday and subsequently continue with the recruitment process or if I should just remain at the utility firm and probably reapply again to PwC next year. This is because presumably, I would have garnered more experience (especially in the power industry) which I understand is really cherished by the big 4. On the other hand, I feel like I’ll be making a mistake if I don’t continue with PwC’s recruitment process now since I’ve always wanted to work with a big 4 and I’m so confused.

Please, any advice?
Thank you

Congrats on your offer from the utility firm (one of Nigeria’s biggest). For PwC, I’ll suggest you go and write the test but don’t put effort in pursuing the job as the utility firm is a good place to work and gain invaluable experience, ditto contacts. So what you will do is to perform to the best of your ability at your present place of work and get resources to prep you for PwC next year. You might need to practise more of the OPQ so you could get a full grasp of the test and be confident ahead of next year.pwc

It is not a mistake not to continue with PwC at the moment, you have something – worthwhile – and part of a rising conglomerate in Africa in a sector that is poised to be the top in the future just like telcoms. Finally, get going in the utility firm, write the test by PwC (it is part of learning), get the experience at where you work and certifications and apply to PwC fully recharged and prepared.

Regards.
