PREPARING TO TAKE CHARGE OF FAMILY BUSINESS
Hello Mr Jarus,
I am Ngozi, a Bsc holder in Telecommunications. I’m about going for my masters and quite confused on what to study. My father has a hospital and a construction firm which needs managing; he’s quite old and running the business would soon be my responsibility.
I love my major but I was advised to take a business management course for my masters. I’m a woman who is very determined, and based on how challenging it is out there, I want a course that would solidify my career alongside my certifications. Could you advice me please?

Dear Ngozi,
I agree with the people that advise you to do your Masters in a business management field. Specifically, I will advise MBA.
The good thing about MBA is, whether you decide to do business or remain in regular employment, it is valuable.
MBA exposes you to modern management techniques and case studies the world over. I believe it will be helpful to you. Just have a good mindset while studying, that you want the knowledge you receive to guide you in turning your family business around. This will make you different from someone with the mindset of just getting the degree only for getting sake.
It also goes without saying that you should start getting familiar with the family business, without making anyone feel threatened.
I wish you all the best.
