MOVING FROM BANK TO OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY

Good day Jarus,

I came across your blog online. I require some professional advice. I am a graduate of engineering(polymer and textile) from FUTO. I have a 6 years plus experience in banking operations but I really need to switch careers or at worst leave my current bank for another one. I have an MBA from OAU. I’m interested in switching to an oil and gas firm, likely finance department. Kindly advise.

I have a friend that moved from UBA to an oil company, and he got it. His network and knowledge of the oil and gas industry being in the energy group of the bank and relating with oil company treasury departments may have been helpful to him.

So it is very possible, but may be tight.

You have MBA, great. Try adding professional exams, preferably CFA or ICAN or ACCA. If it is possible to move to the energy (oil and gas) group within that bank, try it, if not for anything, to build relationships in the oil and gas industry.
