Labour Market This Week: See What’s Up in Flour Mills, Dangote, NNPC, Total, Meristem, Exxon etc
This Week’s Gossip on Recruitment
With
Mr. Job Tatafo
Good day my people,
Welcome to the second week of our recruitment gossip. Enough things don happen throughout the week. From Flour Mills to Dangote Group to Frigoglass to NNPC to Zenith Bank and lots more.
From one of our gossips, I discovered that Dangote Group does not pay well. Diaris God oh! This our resident brethren said the firm is just for the name and experience especially if one decides to move to an oil company. Whether in the cement, refinery or fertilizer division, the pay is not something to write let alone tweet home about. Even after the training exercise in faraway India and on top the bond wey man pikin don sign. Meanwhile, her test on Wednesday no be small thing oh. If not for Indiabix eh, man pikin for look those questions like Lucozade. You see that Indiabix.com? That is the source from which questions for Dangote’s aptitude tests are gotten. Word for word, figure for figure and formula for formula. No jokes here!
That glass company errm Frigoglass, the kind crowd wey I see for there eh! All these tests dey attract intimidating crowd. Wetin happen? 100 questions ranging from numerical to verbal to critical reasoning to general engineering. I hear say na 60K abi 65K Frigoglass is paying during training, how long? I no sabi. Make e no reach one year oh. Even though na either Ota or Aba boys go train, 65K a month for 12 months don pass becareful.
Talking about oyel companies, the Ezemmo of the oil and gas industry is recruiting once again. Ssshh, I don’t mean NNPC, I meant Total Nigeria (the upstream division). But after using my eagle eyes to look at those positions, e be like say na experience staff dem want. This experience of a thing na wahala oh. How man pikin go acquire experience if not on the job kwa?
Regarding NNPC, well, she shortlisted. So far, I have seen lots of materials, some of which has over 300 pages!!! Na PhD examination?! Some even went ahead to share PwC’s questions (which is SHL styled) as NNPC’s and started removing members of the groups to add family and friends. Awon telecoms network.
NNPC mailed the venues and time with some discrepancies. Some persons thought the test will be written on the 27th as the mail stated and not 1st June as initially announced. The worse thing about these venues is the distance between where someone resides and the test centres. Imagine me who resides in Surulere going to Epe to write an 8am test on top Lagos traffic? Or someone who stays in Lekki having his centre at Ikorodu. Na NNPC we wan write, no be JAMB oh.
So Meristem after receiving over 15, 000 applications that they could not handle neither could the recruiting agency (Alan & Grant) finally employed only 10 persons! Mbok, don’t ask me for the percentage, my calculator fit hang.
I hear say Accenture is leaving Nigeria abi rebranding within the next three years, daris God oh! To think I wanted applying by 2020 and know how their SHL feels like (Accenture changed from using GMAT to SHL and recruits for graduate positions once in three years).
My Rainoil colleagues, we have been dragged this time. To think we got qualified and now, we are tested by Dragnet. The assessment centre went well. Candidates have to know Excel shortcuts, listen attentively (jottings too) and manage your time properly (circa 60 seconds for an Excel question).
Meanwhile, Zenith Bank is still recruiting and the test format is GMAT, adaptive styled; 70 questions in less than an hour. Whytecleon (someone termed it Monocotyledon. Awon agricultural science), the recruiting firm, is inviting for transaction trainees into financial institutions. Las las, the pay won’t be more than 80K per month.
How far with EY na? A month has passed since their tax vacancy was advertised, then she called for graduate trainee but here we are with growing grey hairs for test invite. Las las, na Dragnet.
What is Fidelity Bank even doing sef? Is it graduate trainee or digital technology? Airtel’s test by GetQualified is becoming something else these days. Why should GetQuallified even use one score for ALL recruitments supervised by the firm? Isnor fair oh. So because someone had a low score during that of Rainoil, the person won’t receive an invite for Airtel and numerous others? Improvement no dey una dictionary?
What is it sef with WAGPCO? They should release results, make man know his stand.
In other news, PwC, the professional services firm most people know mainly for her auditing expertise invited candidates for her tax apprenticeship program. The first hurdle is the OPQ (Occupational Personality Questionnaire), that test which assesses if you can fit into the firm’s working environment through her values. I wrote the test and my eyes were turnioniown. Lots of options wey resemble Siamese twins.
Finally, BAT (British American Tobacco) sent me a love letter (regret mail). We move. At least, the experience was worth it and one AMIT did not remove me like that of Heineken.
Make I dey go prepare for Saturday’s Champions League Final..oh…sorry NNPC’s test. I want to chop oyel money, by fire by force!
See you next week.
PS1: As I dey waka from here now, I hear say dem don postpone ExxonMobil test for Financial Analyst position wey suppose hold this Saturday. Na 8 June dem say the test go hold now.
