Jarushub Nominated for Nigeria Blog of the Year 2013

1

For those who know me, I have never been known to play the second fiddle. I like to be at the forefront wherever I find myself. It’s just my nature. My friends from secondary school here would readily attest to that. I think this trait followed me online when attention shifted to the internet. Perhaps that’s why Jarus is gradually becoming a brand in Nigeria’s cyberspace, a journey that started from Nairaland, Nigeria’s largest web-based discussion forum.

So when I decided to float a personal blog early this year, I declared my intention: to be among Nigeria’s Top 10 blogs within one year! But as it turned out, that’s even too far – just 7 months later, Jarushub has been nominated Nigeria’s Blog of the Year 2013. Of the tens of thousands of blogs that exist in Nigeria’s cut of the blogosphere, I am honoured to be among the Top 10 for 2013. I will be competing with the likes of Linda Ikeji for the 2013 gong. It should be noted that Jarushub is the youngest of the 10 blogs that made the list.

I am not surprised. To me, what is worth doing at all, is worth doing well. I would have even run this blog better, but it is just not easy for me to devote much time, given my job as an 8-5 accountant.

Like I said, I look beyond award, I do these things out of my passion, but when man is appreciated and recognised even when doing his thing, he is naturally fulfilled. I must also mention that I love awards. I love competition – it brings out the best in me. I have under my belt a couple of  awards, including ICAN prizes. They motivate me.

Now, I have used ‘I’ too much in this post, and that’s uncomfortable. In actual fact, I may be the coordinator, the owner, the rapid success of this blog actually owes to the entire Jarushub team, from my columnists to the ‘eggheads’: Michael Taiwo, Sola Fagorusi, Mislaw, Dr. Balogun, Obafemi Bamidele, Niyi Ogunbayo, Idris Bello, Muyiwa Adeniji, Najeem Ewesesan, Mayowa Akinsola, Kolawole Nasir and Emmanuel Ewumi.

My loyal readers have been wonderful too. We are like a family. We communicate even offline. They trust my judgment. They flock around me. They make Jarus look like a celebrity. Truth is, no matter how good what you write is, if people don’t read it, it is useless. That is why I appreciate my loyal followers here and beyond.

I believe when the voting starts next week, you will all mobilize en masse to make your blog, Jarushub, win the two categories it was nominated for:

  1. Career Blog of the Year 2013
  2. Nigeria’s Blog of the Year 2013
