INVESTMENT TALK WITH EMMA: Introduction

Emmanuel Olugbenga Ewumi

When Jarus called me on Saturday 20th July 2013 at around 5.20pm that he wanted me to write a column on investment in his blog, I felt flattered by his request because I believe there are a lot of people on this blog that have both the academic and professional knowledge of what investment entails, and such people can comfortably do justice to the topic.

I initially rejected his request, but I finally gave in due to his insistence. I never knew that people are inspired by my layman’s analyses of investment, economic and contemporary issues.

While I do not claim to be an investment expert, I believe young Nigerians can learn one or few things from the experience and insights that will be shared on this column. Investment education is what I acquired through self-study, interactions with successful investors and my personal experience.

Other investment and finance gurus on this blog are all enjoined to contribute and share their insights with us all.

This column will focus primarily on the following;

  • Investment in ourselves (knowledge, skills, career, attitude, competences and other intangibles)
  • Real estate.
  • Capital market investment.
  • Money market investment.
  • Money management.
  • Retirement planning.
  • Small businesses and entrepreneurship.
  • Biography of some Nigerian and foreign investors.
  • Review of practical books on investment and finance.
  • Financial literacy.
  • Case studies analyses.
  • Effects of government policies on business and investment.
  • Investment clubs.
  • Investment tips and opportunities.
  • And many more.

I sincerely hope we will all benefit from the column. Watch out on Tuesdays for my fresh menu.
