How I became an instant fan of the new Microsoft CEO!

For some weeks, the world awaited who the new CEO of computer super-giants, Microsoft, would be. International business publications had speculated. Well, less than one hour ago, I got an email alert from Forbes portal, which I subscribed to, that Natya Sadella, one of the Vice Presidents of the company, has been announced as the new chief executive.

Eager to know who the new man at the helms in one of world’s biggest companies is, I opened the link and read the Forbes news.

One part of Forbes report strikes me.  Read:

In an email to employees Tuesday morning he wrote, ‘Today is a very humbling day for me. It reminds me of my very first day at Microsoft, 22 years ago. Like you, I had a choice about where to come to work. I came here because I believed Microsoft was the best company in the world’.”

That, to me, is a masterstroke. I am an MBA candidate and I have developed keenness in management styles of executives in recent time. One quality I admire in executives is ability to carry along every member of staff, ability to motivate and ability to give credit. I imagine being a Microsoft employee and receiving such email from the CEO this morning.  That line will fire me up like one on drug!

This is the stuff of great leaders, whether in the private or public sector. It is a powerful message. You hardly find such in our clime here.

It should be noted that since Bill gates founded Microsoft in 1975, this is just their third CEO. It took 5 months to search for a new CEO for Microsoft since the last CEO stepped aisde in August last year.

I wish Nadella, an Indian, a successful tenure as CEO of Microsoft.
