How a Secondary School Teacher became Top Finance Manager in Big 4 firm in Nigeria

Yesterday, I saw a LinkedIn notification that got me emotional. A young man had been promoted to a Manager position in one of the Big 4 firms. My mind immediately flashed back to when the young man reached out to us seven years ago asking for coaching for his scheduled entry level interview in that firm.

In April 2014, an Educational Management graduate of the Unilorin of Ilorin had a job interview that he must pass at all cost, being his last hope of escaping from the meagre pay of teaching in public school in Nigeria. The young man reached out to JarusHub, then a one year old career blog, to coach him for the interview of the Big 4 firm. He had no clue about Big 4 or accounting, being a graduate of education. He had searched online for interview preparation service providers and all the ones he found were overseas, before Google directed him to this website.

We scheduled a date with him. He was thoroughly prepared on activities of this Big 4 firm, how to handle potential tough questions he could be asked (especially not having any background in accounting or management), how to do well in group discussion and presentation exercises. A mock session was held with him and he was good to go.

To God be the glory, the young teacher went for the interview/assessmment and got the job.

Between 2014 and now, he has risen to become a Manager in the firm. He will be one of the people interviewing others now 🙂

We have also gone ahead to coach over 500 candidates for interviews and assessment centers of different companies in Nigeria between this first case in 2014 and now, and the success rate of our candidates has been very high.

As we always say, there are a lot of brilliant young Nigerians out there who only need some form of guidance and exposure to reach their full potential. We have seen too many cases as a platform that is close to Nigerian graduates. Ahmed is just one of them. We celebrate Ahmed today.

We also need to give kudos to Big 4 firms who have consistently proved to be equal opportunity employer in Nigeria, regardless of your social background or even course of study. Once you make a 2:1 and can withstand their recruitment process. We are happy to have been of help to such graduates over the past seven years through our interview preparation services.

Want to be the next Ahmed? Our Path to Big 4 Course may just be what you need.

UPDATE: We wish to inform you that the following training courses by JarusHub Careers have been discontinued effective from Monday 23rd May 2022 (Interview coaching for PwC and Path to Big 4 course)
