Are you overworking yourself and getting peanuts as salary? Are you tired of standing all the systematic and political rubbish thrown at you in your place of work or you are sick of all the unfair treatment you get or just feel it’s about time you change organisations. The thoughts of quitting your job your current job to start your own business or work for another company is so strong that you feel yourself progressively working towards that goal. Maybe it is about time you get a new job or start your entrepreneurial journey.

I know you loved your job at the beginning but you are not just sure if you still do currently. Now that you feel unsure about your career position. It is high time you leave it behind. However, you are not alone in what you are going through as statistics say that up to 85% of workers hate their current jobs.

If by chance you find yourself wondering if you should change careers or not, here are 4 important things that will help you decide.

courses

1: WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL WORK SITUATION?

First step to making a decision of continuing or quitting your job is doing proper analysis of your work environment. Try to identify the level at which changes has occurred drastically since you began working in your current position.

After this, the next thing you have to do is to make a list of the top 10 phrases or words that best describes your career. While doing this, it is important that you include all pros and cons of present your job. The pros and cons can include the number of hours you spend working each day, all the work benefits you get, and every other thing that make your work extra hard.

Now, how do you feel about that list?

If you feel good, no need of getting another job – get a side hustles instead but if you feel otherwise, you need to quit your job!

2: DOES YOUR ACTUAL JOB DUTIES MATCHES WITH YOUR PERSONALITY?

To every professional or business owner, there are 4 core traits that has gotten you this far.

These traits are:

  • The level of your ability to create interaction with people,
  • Your speed in solving work related problems
  • Your ability to manage day-to-day tasks, and;
  • Swift response to events and situations.

I highly recommend you to:

– Take your list of question one and begin to ask yourself which of them best describes who you are.

– You don’t know where to start? I recommend you take Myers-Briggs personality profile test or DISC personality profile test. Once your test results are out, begin to ask yourself if the most dominant personality fits your current career.

3: What are your values, passions, and dreams?

“Always remember, you have within you, the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” Harriet Tubman

Do you plan or dream of working from home?

If your company does not offer you this opportunity, then your dream will not be fulfilled until you change careers.

Do you currently burn with the passion for achieving fast results but your present team simply do not carry an appropriate amount of this passion?

Start looking for another team to be a part of today.

Do you value work-life balance?

Take the necessary steps to see how you can create more balance in your current career. If that’s not possible, it’s probably time to change careers.

4: IS THERE ANY PAYING MARKET FOR YOUR TARGET CAREER?

The same applies in making career changes. Avoid moving from one thing to the next if the paying market does not fit you. Living on a few dollars or naira to get by is fine, until you have your family to cater for.

Want the best advice? Stay on your current job while you begin your search for a new better one or start a home business that makes your dream come true.

SO, IS IT TIME FOR YOU TO CHANGE CAREERS?

I cannot say for sure; only you can decide this but I do believe that if you carefully examine where you’ve been and where you’re headed, with time you’ll decide what’s best for you.

Stop waiting by trying to make your career fit you when you see clearly that it won’t. Do not procrastinate or waste time. Take an action, quickly; and begin looking for or creating a job from what you love doing best.
