DILEMMA OF A YOUNG GRADUATE: HR OR HEALTH & SAFETY?

1
Salam Jarus, I am at  a crossroad in my career now and I wish to seek your opinion.
I love HR, even though my first degree was in Political Science; I took a master course in Industrial Labour Relations which I’m rounding up by September. I intend using the certificate to get into CIPM(Chartered Institute of Personnel Management).
I work with a government agency at the moment, and it’s boring I must say, so I’m thinking should I switch to health and safety because of its relevance and take  those professional courses or continue finetuning my career in HR and hopefully get posted to Admin or HR department? I’m not in either department  right now. Keep in mind that my ultimate target organization is NDIC.
Now that you know my long term goal, what would you advise? What is relevant and selling in the labour market?
PS: I finished school at 19 years, I don’t want to waste the opportunities I have or may have, might even apply for PhD after results are out. I’m really confused. Please help me out.

Wa alaikum salaam Aminat,
There appears to be some confusion here: too many things at the same time. You need to firm up your plans.
Since you’re doing your masters in Industrial Relations, HR is your best bet. I’m more inclined to Admin and HR for you, forget about the hype about Health & Safety. You can register for and write CIPM exams too as you planned. With your Msc Industrial Relations, you can seek move to Admin or HR within your organization or seek opportunities elsewhere. There is no harm in doing PhD too if you wish to do.
All the best.
Jarus
