DAILY CAREER TIP 07.10.2013 – Be the First In & Last to Leave
I give this advice to everyone starting a new job or still in the formative stages of their professional career. You have more ground to make up than everyone else around you, and you do have something to prove. There’s only one sure-fire way to get ahead, and that’s to work harder than all of your peers. – Jason Nazar
Many people will not agree with this. I know a CFO of a big Nigerian company that doesn’t stay beyond 6pm in office, come what may. He leaves for his squash by 6pm, and nothing can stop him. But he is so effective that he gets the job done for the hours he spends in office, and he is highly respected by his bosses, the topmost executives.
While some people will argue that it is not the number of hours spent in office that matters, I think it is for the good of a person to implement this in the formative stage of one’s career. The time will come when you would have paid your due and even if you arrive few minutes after the opening time and leave immediately the closing time ticks, nobody will question you.
