Contract job in a multinational FMCG or permanent position in a small brand?
Hello Jarus, I recently got a job at a FMCG company here in Lagos with a barely known brand where I am being paid fairly since I’m still fresh from NYSC last month. Fast-foward to this moment, I got a one year offer from a multinational FMCG (name withheld by Jarus) with option of a renewal based on my performance. Is it reasonable to accept the offer considering the fact I already got a permanent job. Lest I forget, I major in Biochemistry with a 2.2 class of degree. I am not moved by the pay but I believe the latter would provide a higher platform for me to learn since I’m still in the formative stage of my career.

Dear Sister,
I can see your mind is with the multinational FCMG, which is not bad. Just inquire from/talk to insiders in the multinational FMCG about whether they truly renew contracts. If they say they do, I’m inclined to saying you should go for it.
Then do these two things:
- While there, begin to press buttons and see if it can be converted to permanent position
- While doing that, still be on the look out for permanent openings elsewhere. The brand of that company can be useful to you in copping a permanent position in an equally good, or better company.
All the best.
