Jessica Barden
You may think you know your employees well, but you are sadly wrong. A workplace is houses many employees belonging to different personality types ranging from introvert and bubbly to funny and extrovert. They all have different temperament and they all have different behavior pattern to respond to situations.
Being the captain of the ship, you have to engage them on a personal level. It takes time but it will benefit your business in the long run.
Let’s have a look at some of the common personality types in workplace and how you can motivate them.
- The Visionary
Visionaries are people who wish to analyze, understand and inspire the people. They are the ones who always wish to go the extra mile in taking risks. They are the ones who see things coming and act promptly.
Tell them that they can never succeed, which will then prompt them to take it as a challenge and motivate them to try and prove you wrong. Have them approach their tasks in an unstructured manner with just a few barriers in their path.
- The Defender
These are workers that prefer to work in stable and secure environments. They like to live in an organized workplace where they live by certain routines. You’d have to communicate with them regularly in order to give them their drive. Only provide them with accurate information every day.
Keep them in the loop of things in the office. Send them emails and invite them over to regular briefings. Make sure to give them plenty of support and tell them what you expect from them. See to it that you reward for their undivided support as well.
- The Expert
As per their title, these are workers who have years of prior experience. Your company would do well to give them the best of treatments. Get behind them by offering them some training and coaching that will eventually lead them to better posts on the ladder.
They will gladly open up to you and their peers about how much they have achieved in their lives.
- The Healer
These are people who live by their own ideals, customs and culture. They are deeply concerned with their personal growth as well as that of others. You can respect how they get work done in their own unique way. So just let them be their selves in that regard.
Try to get them to find another way around a problem that is unorthodox but gets results.
- The Friend
A friend in need is a friend indeed. If you keep that mindset in check, you can get through with these kinds of workers. These employees prefer to work in environments that have great social activities, team spirit and opportunities to help others. They are motivated when you support, consult and involve them.
- The Provider
Pretty much like the friend, providers are the types that like to work in a sensitive and hospitable environment. They care about the needs of others around them and are more than eager and willing to lend a helping hand whenever they can.
Encourage and show them how their work can help to improve the circumstances of others. Give them a space of their own to work with. That way they can achieve results that are more suited to how they see things in their path.
- The Star
A star is one who wants to receive praise, respect and recognition for the work they do. They are more than willing to jump at opportunities that allow them to shine. So the simplest way to motivate such people is to offer them a reward. Let them know how much visibility they can gain by involving them in projects.
Provide them with clear paths and goals and take the time to review them as well. Don’t forget to give them feedback for their work as they love being told how well of a job they have done.
- The Inspector
When you concerned with meeting standards and focused, you are an inspector. These are people who are normally introverted, but don’t keep themselves out of the picture. They are willing to participate knowing that people adhere to the rules of the office.
Let them know that they are responsible for getting the work done. Try to work with them and make appropriate plans of action.
- The Creator
These are type of workers who want a little creativity in the workplace. They yearn for change and innovation and like working in challenging environments. It is wise to put in them in the idea generation department. Put them in charge of projects that require originality and give them problems to solve.
To summarize, you have to determine the individual needs of your employees, so you can better connect with them and get work out of them.
