6 Surefire Ways To Get High-paying Jobs After Covid-19
Sodiq Yusuf
Covid-19 is disrupting the nature of work worldwide and every single one of us is feeling the heat.
People have lost their jobs and a lot more are in fear of what the future holds.
Former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar just recently sacked 46 staff on his payroll on May Day.
As if that is not enough, Access Bank was reported to have laid off 75% of their staff.
And this is not only in Nigeria. The coronavirus pandemic is a global problem. In the US alone, more than 30 million people have suddenly become unemployed.
However terrible the situation looks, especially for the jobseekers, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Although getting a job will be difficult after covid-19, some people will still get employed. Not only with a company willing to pay them peanuts but with one ready to give them a fat paycheck.
So how do you find a job that pays what you are worth after coronavirus?
Is it even possible to get any job at all let alone one with a decent pay?
Yes, it is.
But of course, you will have to reposition yourself in a way that you’ve not done before.
You will have to take the bull by the horn, if you want to get a high-paying job post covid-19.
Now the question is, how do you get a job after coronavirus?
Follow these practical steps:
The Practical Steps To Getting A High-paying Job Post-Covid-19
1. Get a new skill
If you’re in an industry that is among the worst hit by this pandemic, then you’re on a long thing. These companies need people to frequent their business regularly but due to this epidemic, they are shut down. Industries like hospitalities, travels, restaurants are having their worst time right now.
So if this is where you’re skilled, you might consider switching to something else.
You stand a better chance in industries like healthcare, ecommerce, video and movie streaming services to mention a few. Rather than a fall in revenue, companies offering these services are getting 300x ROI this period.
2. Volunteer
Many organizations that will be recruiting after covid-19 will be interested in what you spent your time doing during the lockdown. So if you’re the one always watching Netflix or playing video games or laughing at Broda Shagi’s comedy skit on Instagram, sorry for you.
No company will be interested in a time waster.
So instead of thinking you’ve got plenty of free time to waste, why not channel that energy into something meaningful like volunteering for an organisation?
This period, some charitable NGOs are distributing food, you could reach out to volunteer for them on the field. Or you could offer to help online with any skill you’ve got.
This will make you stand out among teeming number of job applicants after covid-19.
3. Get a certificate
People often make mistakes thinking that they must make money only from their university certificates.
But what if you could get a high paying job by acquiring a certificate in one of the hottest jobs of the century?
No doubt, such jobs as cloud computing, copywriting, web designing, digital marketing to mention a few will be the hot cake when the lockdown is over.
Bottom line, get a certificate in any of these fields and a high-paying job awaits you after covid-19.
4. Network
You must have heard the saying, your network is your net worth. Well, it is true.
Use the opportunity of this coronavirus era to get close to the people that matter.
So many people are willing to help this time. Rather than join many people who have turned themselves into social media beggars on influencers pages, why not connect with them and gain their trust? Who knows, they might be your chance to get a good job.
So this means whenever you attend that webinar event on Zoom, use the opportunity to network with your fellow attendees or even the moderators. Ask and answer questions. Be professional. You never can tell, one of the moderators could be the HR of a big firm. If he shows interest in you, you’re up for success.
5. Create a portfolio
If all you do online is to spend time watching live stream of comedy skits, then I’m sorry for you. This is clearly not the time for that, especially if you’re looking to get a good job after covid-19.
What you do instead is do stuff that you can show potential employers what you have achieved. Show something to prove you know your onions.
The world is fast changing. Big companies no longer allow themselves to be deceived by only your certificate and from which institutions you got it. They are more interested now in whether or not you can perform the tasks that your job demands.
So getting a good job is not hinged on how many certificates you have, but on how well you can perform on the job.
6. Clean up your social media activities
Is your social media engagement clean?
If your activities on the social media like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram do not have a red flag, then congratulations.
It means that you’re safe, when potential employers check to see what youve been up to on the social media and finds thought provoking posts and relevant comments.
But if you are the type your posts always portray impatience, grammatical errors, verbal abuse, and other unacceptable contributions, chances are your potential employers won’t be impressed.
So what do you do? Tidy up your social media engagement right now.
This is one of things you should do if you’re looking to get a good job post covid-19.
The Last Note
As the world struggles to bring an end to the coronavirus pandemic, thousands of jobs are at stake. However, for some people who are able to show some or all of the above stated points, there’s a new world of job opportunities waiting for them. Will it be you?

Thank you for this informative piece. The one that sparked me the most is the fact pointed out that “getting a good job is not hinged on how many certificates I have, but on how well I can perform on the job.”
Hence, I’m inspired to work much more to improve my skill and competence in this period, looking forward to getting a job with a high pay, after COVID ’19.
Thank you so much. Feeling excited, setting up my table for more work! 😊
Hi Oluwafemi,
Thanks for your kind words. Glad you found the post helpful.
Hi my name is Yolanda
Please what career advice can you give to a graduate in French who just finished her National youth service this year.
If you want to practice in your field, it may take some time. If you made a 2:1, you may consider companies that recruit graduates irrespective of course of study. They recruit from time to time. Like PwC, KPMG, EY, Deloitte. Subscribe to websites like hotnigerianjobs.com or hotproforum to read updates on when they are recruiting.
